Simple Facts You Should Know About Timers

This ANCO timer requires no oiling.  Machine or cylinder oil don’t hurt it, however, and don’t affect its performance, except that some neglected old Ford cars leak so much dirty oil around cam shaft and into timer shell that after a long while timer contacts and brush, become so fouled with black, dirty grease they can’t give best results.  This same dirty oil very quickly ruins any roller timer beyond repair.  It can not injure the ANCO in the least, and even if your car does throw dirty oil into the ANCO timer shell it is only necessary once in a long time to remove the ANCO shell, wipe off the brush with a kerosene or gasoline soaked rag, rinse or wipe the timer shell clean inside with kerosene or gasoline – and the ANCO will work like new again. On the big majority of Ford cars, trucks and Fordson tractors it is only necessary to install the ANCO and let it alone. 

Don’t pack the ANCO with cup grease or hard oil.  If you do, it cannot possibly function properly.

HINTS ON INSTALLATION

This ANCO timer fits exactly in place of the Ford “roller” timer and installs in the same way.  Each part, and the finished timer, is subjected to rigid and repeated expert inspection and test in our factory and is guaranteed absolutely against defects of any kind. 

Any ANCO timer returned to us and found defective will be replaced promptly, prepaid and free of charge.  

CONTACT POINTS (inside the shell and at the four terminals) are not springs.  They are adjusted at the factory with microscopic accuracy, to correct and rigid position, by special Micrometer Jigs, to give uniform and extremely accurate timing.  Don’t bend these contacts.  They can’t bend in service. 

BRUSH and contacts are both made from selected anti-friction metal, heat treated and hardened by special process to give long wear and best electrical results.  New brushes may be purchased at 75 cents each from the dealer who sold you your timer.  Be sure you get a Model “F” or “FU” ANCO brush so marked on box.  Brushes for obsolete model ANCO timers will not work at all in the “Model F” or “FU”.  Don’t bend contacts..

CAP WASHER – Use only the special cap washer found in box with Model “F” or “FU” ANCO Brush.  Ordinary cap washers cramp brush and prevent good results.  Don’t bend contacts.

TIMING:  The ANCO is “timed” exactly the same as the regular Ford timer.  If your car is timing too early, bend the timer connecting rod to lengthen it slightly.  If timing too late, bend rod to shorten it slightly.  The exact and positive timing of the ANCO permits usually a further retarded spark than with other timers, both in starting and running.

“PIE PLATE” WASHER:   Around cam shaft and just back of timer usually is found a thin tin washer cupped slightly.  It is good practice to remove and discard this washer as it sometimes causes shorts, and is unnecessary when the ANCO is used. 

NUTS:  Be careful not to loosen hex nuts on outside of timer shell.   This is important with any timer.  These nuts are drawn tight at the factory.  Keep them tight.

HIGHEST ELECTRICAL EFFICIENCY

Positive wiping contact of the ANCO gives constantly 18 to 22% higher electrical efficiency than any other timer.  Note stronger action of your coils.  This means easier starting.  Smoother, stronger power.  Actual increase of two to five miles per gallon of gasoline.  Reduced carbon deposits-and less unexploded gasoline in the crank case to dilute cylinder oil and cut out engine and transmission bearings.

 

EFFICIENCY IS CONSTANT

The ANCO gives full 100% electrical efficiency as long as any metal is left for contact.   All roller timers lose efficiency steadily until discarded.  No Ford Engine can be more efficient than its timer.  A 70% timer means 30% waste in engine efficiency.  The higher efficiency of the ANCO saves many times its cost.

 

REQUIRES NO OILING

Neglect that quickly ruins roller timers can’t hurt the ANCO.  Without lubrication or attention of any kind the ANCO will outlast three to five of the best of roller timers.

 

TROUBLE-PROOF

Simplicity prevents disorders.  The ANCO has but ONE moving part.  All roller timers have two; and some timers have many.  The ANCO has only about 10% of the friction created in a roller timer. ANCO friction is all applied on the wipe to give positive results.

 

“AIR GAP” PREVENTS SHORTS

All contact is limited to contact points.  Can’t metalize between contacts and cause dangerous shorts as in roller timers.  Insulation at contacts is positive.

 

GIVES LOWEST REPLACEMENT COST

Per dollar of price the ANCO gives by far the most miles of efficient service compared with any other timer.  Users spend less for timer replacements and get more for what they spend. 

 

“EACH ANCO TIMER MORE THAN PAYS FOR THE NEXT ONE”

The Model “F” (for Ford cars and trucks, the Model “FF” (for Fordson Tractors) and the Model  “FU” (which fits all Ford cars, Ford trucks and Fordson tractors)  all take exactly the same brush and are exactly the same in construction except in the shape of the shell.  Don’t confuse these models which retail at $2.50 (printed on box) with previous lighter Anco models of somewhat different design now obsolete.
