Lubrication of the

First, as with everything, moderation
is the key, and a bit of well placed lube is the best. This includes a smear of grease on the
stationary contacts in the case, and on the rotary contact where it strikes the
stationary contacts. Care should be
taken to avoid excess lube on the rotary contact, as excess lube adds weight to
the rotary contact and may affect performance, as the spring is matched to the
mass of the rotary contact, and excess lube could add mass.
For the past years, the rotor has been
factory lubed at the pivot point with an extreme pressure lube with great
results. In tests, this lube seems to
resist the wiping action when used on the stationary contacts (just a bit on
the contact surface). The lube is CMD Extreme Pressure Lubricant, and is
offered in ¼ oz containers on this website.
Other lubes that have been tested are
Vaseline, White Lithium Grease, and Regular Chassis Grease. All are good, but the one that seems best at
this point in the testing is CMD Extreme Pressure Lubricant. Several others have been suggested and will
be tested.
I will appreciate your feedback on any
timer lubes that you have used or had experience with.
